PADRE PIO
MIRACLE MAN

The Priest Who Bore the
Wounds of Christ

Padre Pio: Miracle Man is a dramatic film on the
life of the famous stigmatic monk, and saint.
This major feature film drama captures the
Capuchin friar’s intense faith and devotion, and
deep spiritual concern for others, as well as his
great compassion for the sick and suffering.

It dramatizes the frequent attacks of the devil on
him, as well as the persecution he suffered at
the hands of people, including those in the
Church.

The many miracle s that he performed are also
highlighted, as well as his deep humility, charity
and sense of humor.

Starring Italian actor Sergio Castellitto, and directed
by Carlo Carlei, this is an outstanding feature film on the amazing life of this great saint.

On March 14th, our parish will take up The Catholic
Relief Services Collection.
You are invited to give
hope to Jesus in disguise. Give hope to the community
that has lost its livelihood to a crop disease. Give
hope to the refugee child, separated from her mother.
Give hope to the immigrant, trying to keep faith alive
in a foreign land. The Catholic Relief Services Collection helps to fund programs that give hope to refugees, immigrants, and the impoverished, including
victims of war, natural disaster, and drought.
Through humanitarian, economic, pastoral, and advocacy efforts, The Catholic Relief Services Collection gives hope. Please be generous in next week’s

Our Lady's Message

Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Our Lady’s Message of January 25, 2010

"Dear children! In this time of grace, when nature
also prepares to give the most beautiful colors of the
year, I call you, little children, to open your hearts to
God the Creator, for Him to transform and mould
you in His image, so that all the good which has
fallen asleep in your hearts may awaken to a new
life and a longing towards eternity. Thank you for
having responded to my call."

PCCW BABY SHOWER

The PCCW is sponsoring a Baby Shower for
Tomorrow’s Hope Pregnancy Center on Wednesday,
March 17th. The items needed are for premature
and newborn babies. Toiletry items (ie baby oil and
baby powder) would also be appreciated. If you
would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause,
please place you unwrapped gifts in the crib in
Heenan Hall. Thank you for your cooperation.

Evenings of Discernment
Office of Vocations

These evenings might be described as “mini-retreat
experiences.“ They are for those men who are interested in the priesthood and are seniors in high school or older. We gather on the third Monday of each month at St. Louis Church, 203 S. White Station
Road, Memphis, at 5:45 pm for Evening Prayer. After
that, at 6:15 pm, we head to a restaurant for fellowship
and return to the church for reflection and
prayer - the evening concludes at 8:30 pm. Not only
do these evenings provide an opportunity to reflect
on God’s call in one’s life, but they provide you with
fellowship with those who are also thinking about
priesthood in their lives as well. Come join us on
Monday, March 15, 2010, at 5:45 pm at St. Louis
Church.

LENTEN DISCIPLINES

During Lent, the Church takes its cue from Jesus
who fasted for 40 days in the desert. To fast in union
with other Christians can be a holy reminder of
our utter dependence on God. Fasting is also an
element of repentance. As we turn away from food
and drink, we turn our hearts away from sin to live in
fidelity to the Gospel of Jesus.

FASTING: Catholics of ages 18-59 fast on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday, limiting themselves to
one full meal and two smaller meals, with no snacking
between meals.

ABSTINENCE: Catholics of age 14 and older abstain
from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday
and all the Fridays of Lent.

PRAYER: Catholics are encouraged to increase
prayer during Lent, praying especially with Scripture.
Celebration of the Sacrament of Penance is also
encouraged during Lent in preparation for celebrating
the Easter mysteries.

ALMSGIVING: Following the example of Jesus,
many Christians combine almsgiving with fasting,
giving to the poor the money they save by eating,
drinking, or buying less during Lent.

Holy Cross Library is now open 5 days a week 9:00
am -2:30 pm. Please stop at the church office first.

We have a number of good audio tapes, VHS tapes,
DVD’s and books available.

A weekly visit will enhance your Lenten devotion.

MARCH CD

THE HEALING POWER OF CONFESSION
By Dr. Scott HahnT

Dr. Scott Hahn presents the historical and biblical
origins of the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation), which is probably the most misunderstood of the Seven Sacraments. He provides an important guide for new Catholics, a source of renewal for “old hands”, and a challenge to all of us to deepen our relationship with Christ through regular use of the Sacrament of Penance.

♦“This is an outstanding talk on Confession that
cuts to the heart of this great Sacrament of
Mercy”

                            Father Joseph - Baltic CT

“It’s great for answering my children’s questions.
It will also help me answer questions of
non-Catholic and fallen-away Catholic friends.”

                            Bill - Chino, CA
